The brilliant and refreshing concept of The Collective was born as a result of neighbours Philip and Marjorie and Andre and Charlene Joubert combining their dreams and joining forces.
Hardly a month later, and might we add two weeks before the countrywide lockdown, a beautiful gem of a shop opened in Hout Bay.
Philip Goode, a UK City & Guild qualified carpenter and joiner, says it’s been his dream to open a shop for 25 years, so when the opportunity arose he decided to jump in and make it work. Philip is the designer behind the wide variety of uniquely customised quality tables made from new and reclaimed wood.
Andre Joubert, a software developer by trade and a maker at heart armed with his CNC machine, loves applying his skills and designs to create interesting and useful objects and is the creator behind our oversized scrabble tiles, lap desks and soon some S.T.E.M. wooden items for the younger generation.
Marjorie and Charlene joined forces to source outstanding local makers of quality hand made goods such as leather bags, cushions, ceramics, knits, macramé and even baskets. They also decided to bring us a collection of carefully curated gifts from uniquely South African companies, not normally locally available, such as Carrol Boyes and Ecoffee Cup Bamboo reusable cups.
We wish them only the best in their new venture and can’t wait to see what else arrives at the shop!
