This month we caught up with one of our favourite South African models, actresses, and TV presenters. This beautiful, grounded, and spiritual Mum of three dazzled us with her down-to-earth responses, practical advice, and overall kindheartedness. It is almost impossible to not feel full of hope and light after chatting to her.
What is your favourite way to stay fit, healthy, and active?
I love to hike in the mountains around my home in beautiful Stellenbosch a few times a week (so good for body, mind, and soul!) I also enjoy a weekly Pilates class to keep stretched and toned. I do intermittent fasting, limit myself to only two cups of coffee a day and two meals a day. I try to eat my dinner early too. We try to do lots of outdoorsy things with our girls and enjoy lots of time in nature.
What are a few of your top hair and beauty tips?
I never go to bed with my make-up on! I try not to colour my full head of hair each time I go to the hairdresser to give my hair a bit of time to recover between appointments, and I drink a lot of water during the day. I believe it is key to a healthy, glowing skin. I am also religious about using sunscreen. I try to teach that to my daughters too. Prevention is better than cure!
Name a few of the tools you make use of to balance the demands of modern-day life.
Having a full-time job, three daughters, and a husband, my life is very full. Family comes first, and then the rest. When I had my youngest little daughter, I needed to find a way to best divide my time between my three daughters so they each get some one-on-one time. We have a code for when they need it, we call it ”me-time” so that is very sweet and works well for us. I also find that taking little breaks for myself helps too. These range from time at the spa, to shopping, lunch with my girlfriends, and battery-recharging weekends away with the family. I am also incredibly lucky to have my parents close by and they are a huge support to me. I hired an au pair at the beginning of the year and have a super-nanny, all of whom help to keep the mother ship afloat. “It takes a village…” as the saying goes!
What do you hope for most in our country?
South Africa is the most incredible place in the entire world. I have lived abroad, and I see that no country is perfect. I would rather bring up my children in a country where they can go to school barefoot, and see their extended family and have a relationship with them. I wish everyone could see the massive potential we have in this country if we all work together. We have everything we need to succeed! There is space in the sun for us all, and an overabundance of blessings!
