Cape Town born pop singer and songwriter, Matthew Mole, like many of his fellow musos, has been performing virtually since the start of when things started to go pear-shaped last year. This talented South African Music Awards winner is back with a bang with the start of his “I’m with you” tour this month. With a kickoff in Century City, Cape Town, and finalé in Pretoria, Mole is so thrilled to be back on the road playing for his fans again (in the flesh!)
Artists have had to make extensive use of their social media platforms over this difficult time which has sadly become “the new normal.” They have had to expand their offerings and extend their creative boundaries even more. Mole has recently started live online classes where he teaches songwriting and production. He has also started an online shop called the “Mole Shop,” selling awesome branded t-shirts, beanies, and jerseys. One of the coolest, most defining details of this new offering is that some of the items have lyrics from his songs printed on them.
The 27th South African Music Awards, hosted by Bontle Modiselle and Lawrence Maleka, took place on 21 July this year. The SAMAs nominated Mole for the “Record of the Year” award for his single “Keep it together” which he ended up taking home with him much to his surprise, wonder, and delight! Speaking to 947’s Thando Thabethe, and 5FM’s Nick Hammann, Mole said he could not believe that he had won as the competition was so tight being nominated amongst the likes of Master KG who has the biggest song in the land, “Jerusalema”.
This 29-year-old Hout Bay local popstar extraordinaire started making music after high school, and although his journey has been somewhat of a rollercoaster at times, he has got this far, and on a roll! Mole says his father taught him how to play the guitar, and he now also plays the piano, banjo, ukulele, organ, and drums, all of which he incorporates into his sound and music. His very first body of music was released in 2011, an EP called “You did well, kid”. In 2012 he released his second EP called “Same Parts, Same Heart”. This song was featured in the soundtrack of the film Leading Lady.
Matthew Mole has been tirelessly working on his music career all these years and is so deserving of his recent award. He remains so grateful for all the amazing support from his fans and has lots more exciting content up his sleeve to keep thrilling his loyal fanbase.
Now that the lockdown regulations have been eased under lockdown level three, Mole’s fans can enjoy seeing him live again. For more details and to buy tickets for the “I’m with you” tour, visit www.matthewmole/tour
